3 won the ‘Fastest Network’ award for 40,449 residential addresses in Edinburgh. EE came in second place with 35,292, followed by Vodafone (17,085) and O2 (15,162).

EE won the ‘Fastest Network’ award for 1,604 business addresses, in Edinburgh. 3 came in second place with 1,400, followed by Vodafone (617) and O2 (465).

- 3 wins the ‘Real-World Download Speed’ award, providing an average of 23.6 Mbps across Edinburgh compared with EE (22.2 Mbps), O2 (18.7 Mbps), and Vodafone (17.6 Mbps).

Vodafone wins the ‘Real-World Upload Speed’ award with an average of 6.1 Mbps, compared to O2 (5.6 Mbps), EE (5.5 Mbps), and 3 (5 Mbps).

This report analyses the consumer experience of the UK’s four largest mobile network operators, EE, Vodafone, 3 (Three) and O2. The data was collected between 7th November 2023, and 14th December 2023. Measurements from all network generations (2G-5G) were recorded, collecting a total of 444,498 data points. Data was collected across the vast majority of the road network of Edinburgh.

Edinburgh has a population of 526,470 and is characterised as a densely populated urban area. Edinburgh’s topography is hilly terrain with the Water of Leith running to the north of the city centre. The University of Edinburgh, founded in 1582, is also found near the centre of the city, close to Edinburgh Castle.
